What it costs

Prices on the wall, not in the small print.

Every price below is the real one — quoted before treatment, in writing, and it doesn't change in the chair. If we recommend something, we'll tell you what happens if you'd rather wait.

Check-up & hygiene

A full exam, X-rays if needed, and a proper clean — with time to actually talk.

£65

Whitening

Custom trays and clinical-grade gel you use at home, checked by us at each step.

£295

Clear aligners

Straighten quietly over 6–18 months. Free scan first, so you know if it'll work before paying.

from £1,900

Implants

A fixed replacement tooth, planned in 3D. Includes the crown — the price is the whole job.

from £2,400

Emergency, same day

In pain now? Call before 10am and we'll see you today. Assessment plus immediate relief.

£95

Why we publish prices: because the scariest part of dentistry is often the bill you can't predict. 0% finance over 12 months is available on treatment over £500.

Dental tools laid out neatly in a bright, modern clinic

Nervous patients

Gentle by design, not by slogan.

About a third of our patients arrive anxious. These aren't perks — they're standard procedure at Lumen.

Numb first, always

Topical numbing gel before any needle, and we wait until it's working — not until we're ready.

The hand rule

Raise your hand and everything stops. Immediately, every time, no questions. You're in charge of the pace.

Noise-cancelling headphones

Bring your own playlist or borrow ours. Most people say the sound is worse than the feeling — so we remove it.

Sedation options

For longer treatment, IV sedation with a dedicated sedationist. You'll remember almost none of it.

Who you'll meet

Three people, no rotating strangers.

You see the same clinician every visit. They know your history, your sore spots, and how you take your appointments.

Dr. Amara Okafor

Principal dentist

Fifteen years in restorative dentistry. Chose the practice name because "lumen" is the unit of light, and she over-explains with a mirror in your hand.

GDC 245119

Dr. James Whitlow

Dentist · sedation lead

Special interest in anxious and phobic patients. Half his week is people who hadn't seen a dentist in ten years — his favourite half.

GDC 271846

Sofia Brandt

Hygienist

Runs the £65 hygiene visits and the "haven't been in years" first appointments. Genuinely will not lecture you about flossing.

"I hadn't been to a dentist in nine years and I was braced for a telling-off. Instead: 'You're here now, let's make a plan.' I nearly cried."

Rachel M. · new patient, 2025
★★★★★

"Used the hand signal twice during my filling. Both times everything stopped instantly. That single thing fixed twenty years of fear."

Daniel K. · nervous patient
★★★★★

"The implant quote was the implant price. No 'from', no extras appearing later. I didn't know dentistry could work like that."

Your first visit

What actually happens.

STEP 01

Talk first, chair later

We start in a normal room, sitting in normal chairs. Tell us your history, your worries, and what you want — or don't want — to happen today.

STEP 02

Look, then explain

A gentle exam and photos of your own teeth on the big screen. You see what we see. Nothing is done without you agreeing to it.

STEP 03

A written plan with real prices

You leave with a plan, exact costs, and zero obligation. Some people book treatment that day; some think for a month. Both are fine.

Honest answers

The questions people actually ask.

Does it hurt?

Sometimes dentistry involves discomfort — we won't pretend otherwise. What we promise: you'll be properly numb before anything sharp, you can stop us at any moment, and we'll tell you honestly what each step feels like before it happens. Most patients say the fear was worse than the visit.

I haven't been in years. Will I get judged?

No. Around a third of our new patients haven't seen a dentist in five-plus years. You'll get a plan, not a lecture — we're glad you came, and we'll say so.

How much will my first visit cost?

£65 for the new-patient exam, including X-rays and photos. If you need treatment, you'll get exact written prices before anything is booked. Emergencies are £95 including immediate relief.

Do you take NHS patients?

We're a private practice, so no — but our prices are published, our plans are itemised, and 0% finance spreads anything over £500 across 12 months. No hidden costs is the whole point of how we work.

What if I'm too anxious to even book?

Book a free 15-minute chat instead — no chair, no exam, just a conversation with Dr. Whitlow about what would make a visit possible for you. Several patients started with two or three of these.
