Quiet buildings, careful rooms.
Atelier North is a small practice working across Scotland and the north of England. We design homes, studios and galleries that hold light well, age slowly, and ask for very little attention — so that life inside them can have all of it.

What we do
Services
Feasibility studies
Before you buy, or before you commit — we test what a site or building can honestly become. Two to four weeks, sketch options, planning read, budget ranges. Most studies pay for themselves in avoided mistakes.
Architectural design
Full service, concept to completion: planning, listed building consent, technical design and contract administration. We take on six projects a year so each one gets a principal's attention throughout.
Interiors
Rooms, joinery, light and loose furniture — as part of a building project or on their own. We draw the cabinetry ourselves and stay through installation, because the last five percent is the interior.
The studio
About the studio
Atelier North was founded in 2017 by Eilidh Marr and Jonas Keel, who met restoring a category-A listed bank nobody else wanted. The practice has stayed deliberately small: two principals, four architects, one workroom above a printmaker in Stockbridge.
We believe restraint is a discipline, not an absence. Our buildings tend to be simple in plan, generous in section, and particular about daylight. We reuse structure wherever it stands, and we detail for the person who will repaint the window in thirty years.
